Here are some important reminders and updates for the week ahead:

1.     Student-led school conferences will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Friday, March 20 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  This is an important opportunity to see your child’s work in the classroom and meet with their teacher to discuss next steps in learning.

You may book a time for conferences in your MyCBE PowerSchool account beginning on Monday, March 9 at 9:00 am.  Once logged in, click on the ‘Book and Manage Meeting Times’ tile.

See our Conference page for instruction.

2.     Brentwood is partnering with Inside Education next week to provide a STEM inquiry residency focused on environmental stewardship, sustainability, and environmental literacy.  We will be exploring the question, “What is environmental stewardship, and how can our everyday choices make a positive impact on the world around us?”  Grade 1-6 classes will participate in an assembly on Monday morning to initiate the residency and introduce our school-wide challenge, which is to reduce our paper towel consumption.  During the week, all classes will be tracking their paper towel usage as well as discussing and implementing strategies to reduce use.

At Monday’s assembly, Elder Shirley Hill has been invited to smudge, which involves burning a small amount of dried plant such as sage, sweetgrass or cedar inside a cast-iron dish or abalone shell.  During a smudge, participants listen to the Elder as they offer teachings about the practice and its role in historical and contemporary Indigenous communities. The smudge bowl may be passed to some staff and/or students as part of this traditional way of opening or beginning time together.

Participation in a smudge is informed, voluntary, and always connected to learning.  If you would not like your child to participate in the smudge, please contact their teacher who will arrange for an alternate activity during this time.
