Dear Brentwood Families:

Colder temperatures have arrived!  Please ensure your child comes to school with a warm jacket, winter footwear, a hat and gloves/mitts.

Here are some updates as we look ahead:

Provincial Screeners

Grade 1-5 students completed provincial screeners in literacy and numeracy between September 14 – October 2.  The screeners were administered by classroom teachers and then submitted to Alberta Education.  Parents will receive a student report of their child’s progress on the screeners between October 26-29.  The report will be sent home in an envelope with your child.

Student Support

Should your child student report identify them as requiring additional support, they will receive targeted intervention from:

  • Grade 1 |  Mrs. Levie (Intervention Teacher)
  • Grade 2 |  Mrs. Ngai (Classroom Complexity Teacher)
  • Grade 3 |  Mrs. Johnston (Intervention Teacher)
  • Grade 4-5 intervention is provided by the classroom teacher and Education Assistants

If you have questions about your child’s report, or about the intervention they may receive, you may book a conference with their teacher on November 26-27.

Halloween

Students may wear Halloween costumes on Friday, October 30.  Participation is voluntary; students who do not wear a costume should wear their regular school uniform.

All costumes must be appropriate for an elementary school setting and suitable for a Kindergarten audience.  The following are not permitted:

  • Full-face masks
  • Costumes with adult or violent themes
  • Accessories or props that simulate weapons

Should you have questions about the suitability of your child's costume, please contact their teacher or school administration.  Thank you for helping us ensure a safe, fun, and inclusive Halloween experience for everyone at Brentwood School.

Sincerely,

Rudy J. Stein
