Dear Brentwood Families,
This week is BUSY
Our students are looking forward to the continuation of grade 2 & 3 swimming lessons this week, a grade 1 & 5 visit to Glenbow Ranch (Monday, June 15 & Tuesday, June 16 respectively), and a field day for all students on Friday, June 19. A big thank you to our many volunteers for their support of these activities.
Next Year Staffing
I am pleased to share that Brentwood School has received additional provincial funding for the 2026–2027 school year. Two initiatives that will enhance support for students and strengthen learning environments across our school:
Classroom Complexity Team (CCT)
Brentwood is one of 118 CBE schools to receive funding for a Classroom Complexity Team, consisting of one additional full-time teacher and two additional full-time Education Assistants. The purpose of the CCT is to increase support for students, improve learning and social-emotional outcomes, and ensure resources are directed where they are needed most.
Ms. Ngai has assumed the role of CCT teacher this spring and has been supporting literacy and numeracy development in Kindergarten, as well as providing targeted self-regulation support in Grade 2 classrooms. Additional Education Assistant support has also been provided through this funding.
To date, the CCT has supported students through one-to-one assistance, small-group interventions, and co-teaching alongside classroom teachers. We have already seen positive impacts on identified academic and well-being outcomes, and we look forward to expanding this work to other grades next year, as the CCT funding will continue.
Class Size Reduction Grant (CSRG)
Brentwood has also been allocated two additional full-time teaching positions for the 2026–2027 school year through the Government of Alberta’s Class Size Reduction Grant. These positions will allow us to create additional classes in Grades 4 and 5 and ensure that all Kindergarten to Grade 5 classes have a maximum of 25 students.
This allocation was determined using system-wide data, including:
- The number of classes exceeding provincial class-size benchmarks
- Projected enrolment and class organization
- School programming and grade configuration
The additional staffing will help provide students with:
- Increased teacher attention and support
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater responsiveness to diverse learning needs
Hiring for these positions is currently underway. I will provide families with a further staffing update before the end of June, which will include a welcome to several new staff members, and a fond farewell to others.
Brentwood remains committed to creating strong learning environments for all students and to using available resources thoughtfully and strategically to support student success.
Thank you for your support. 10 school days to go!
Sincerely,
Rudy J. Stein
Principal
